Lowry’s Bar in Clifden comes under DMJE Ventures’ corporate umbrella. This famous pub has won multiple awards over the years, including Best Traditional Bar in Ireland 2015 and 2018 at the National Hospitality Awards, Best Music Bar in Connacht 2017 and Best Tourist Bar in Connacht 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024 at the Irish Pub Awards, Best Pub in Galway 2025 at the Irish Restaurant Awards, and Best Traditional Bar in Connacht 2025 and Best Music Bar in Connacht 2025 at the Irish Bar and Cocktail Awards.
Community Leadership
As a director of the Connemara Chamber of Commerce, Damien Joyce, Lowry’s Bar owner, has been involved on a voluntary basis with the Connemara Chamber of Commerce for the last five years. This organisation exists to help promote the region’s economic development and assist businesses in the region. Mr Joyce was also part of a small voluntary team that recently ran the ‘Win a Home in Clifden’ community fundraiser, which sold tickets to raise money for community projects and the building of a community and enterprise hub in Clifden. The draw, which was held in August 2025, was a huge success; it sold €1.82 million in tickets, making it one of Ireland’s most successful ever community fundraisers.
Communtiy Sponsorship
Through Lowry’s Bar, DMJE Ventures has been sponsoring local events for many years. Mr Joyce played with his local GAA club for over 20 years, and Lowry’s Bar has been the main sponsor of its local GAA club for the last 15 years. It also sponsors its local arts festival (one of the longest running in Ireland) and rugby club.
Philanthropy
Through his business, Mr Joyce has been a long-time advocate of the charity Cancer Care West, and he is planning to make further donations in 2025 and beyond. This organisation offers support and services to anyone affected by cancer throughout Sligo, Galway, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Clare and Roscommon. Cancer Care West’s professional and community-based services are available free of charge and include Galway Cancer Support Centre, Donegal Cancer Support Centre, accommodation for those undergoing radiotherapy treatment and a transport service.
